Adobe Flash 將在 2020 年 End of Life

Adobe 發出的公告，將在 2020 年中止所有對 Flash 的支援：「Flash & The Future of Interactive Content」。

Specifically, we will stop updating and distributing the Flash Player at the end of 2020 and encourage content creators to migrate any existing Flash content to these new open formats.

然後 Google 與 Microsoft 也來補刀講兩句話：「So long, and thanks for all the Flash」、「Saying goodbye to Flash in Chrome」、「The End of an Era – Next Steps for Adobe Flash」。

Ubuntu 12.04 終結 (EoL)

Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) 上個禮拜宣佈終結了：「Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) End of Life reached on April 28, 2017」。還有被迫要使用 12.04 的人可以買 ESM (Extended Security Maintenance)：「Introducing Ubuntu 12.04 ESM (Extended Security Maintenance)」。

話說回來，16.04 用到現在 (都已經出到 16.04.2 了)，用起來覺得整體的流暢度與穩定度比 14.04 差了一大截...

離 PHP 5.5 官方中止支援不到兩個禮拜了...

在 PHP 網站上的「Supported Versions」可以看到 PHP 5.5 將要停止支援了：

PHP 5.6 因為是 PHP 5 的最後一個版本，有特殊待遇，時間會拉的比較長 (功能性更新多四個月，安全性更新多一年)：

As it is the final PHP 5 release, support for PHP 5.6 has been extended: active support will run for an additional four months, and the security fix period has been doubled from one to two years. Other releases are unaffected.

話說 PHP 7.1 也在 alpha 階段了...

Lyft 與通用汽車合作，將在今年推出無人駕駛計程車

在「GM, Lyft to Test Self-Driving Electric Taxis」這邊看到突破性的服務，Lyft 與通用汽車 (GM) 合作，將在今年推出無人駕駛計程車。

通用汽車的新聞稿在這：「GM and Lyft to Shape the Future of Mobility」。

這直接再度衝擊了整個行業... 這次行業裡面的「人」消失了。

加州在規劃廢除日光節約時間

加州在規劃廢除日光節約時間：「California could drop Daylight Saving Time」。

A California lawmaker has introduced a bill to unshackle the Golden State from the horological chains of Daylight Saving Time.

主要是沒有實質效益，甚至是與當初預期的反效果：

Daylight saving time is observed in about 70 countries worldwide, but its benefits are the subject of much debate. While studies in the 1970s argued that it reduced energy usage, it’s no longer clear that’s the case. A 2011 study in Indiana found that electricity use rose in the state as a result of daylight saving.

SSD 的壽命

在 Slashdot 看到對 SSD 硬碟壽命的分析：「Endurance Experiment Writes One Petabyte To Six Consumer SSDs」。原文出自「The SSD Endurance Experiment: Casualties on the way to a petabyte」。

測試的對象包括了：

  • Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB
  • Intel 335 Series 240GB
  • Samsung 840 Series 250GB
  • Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
  • 2 * Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB

寫入 1PB 的資料後，看硬碟的壽命... 然後這三顆還活著：

That's an astounding total for consumer-grade drives, and the Corsair Neutron GTX, Samsung 840 Pro, and compressible Kingston HyperX 3K are still going!

很有趣的測試，不知道這是不是代表現在的 SSD 硬碟比較神猛了？

這些測試都是消費級的 SSD，不知道伺服器用的又是如何 :o (想到之前拿去跑 MySQL 的好慘啊...)
