CloudFront 的印度與亞太區降價

AWS 宣佈 CloudFront 在印度與亞太區降價：「Amazon CloudFront announces price cuts in India and Asia Pacific regions」，回朔至這個月月初生效：

Amazon CloudFront announces price cuts of up to 36% in India and up to 20% in the Asia Pacific region (Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, & Thailand) for Regional Data Transfer Out to Internet rates. The new CloudFront prices in these regions are effective May 1st, 2021.

比了一下現在的「Amazon CloudFront Pricing」與 Internet Archive 上的「Amazon CloudFront Pricing」，看起來 First 10TB、Next 40TB、Next 100TB 與 Next 350TB 的部份都有降，更多的部份則是維持原價。

對一般簡單用的人來說，主要是落在 First 10TB 這個區間，亞太區的每 GB 單價從 USD$0.14 降到 USD$0.12，不無小補，而有夠大的量的單位應該都去談 commit & discount 了...

印度威脅要逮捕 Facebook、WhatsApp 與 Twitter 的員工

在 The Wall Street Journal 上看到的，印度政府威脅 Facebook、WhatsApp 與 Twitter，如果不配合政府的要求提供資料並將內容下架，將會逮捕他們在印度的員工：「India Threatens Jail for Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter Employees」。

這應該是透過上個月才剛過的法令：「Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter Face New Rules in India」。

印度的市場太大，各家社群網站都想要進去，造就了政府的有足夠的能力跟這些大公司談判，而且是具有壓制性的力量。

在去年殺完 Tiktok 後，上個月擴權然後這個月反過來殺這些美國的企業。

美國政府不知道會幫到什麼程度...

CloudFront 在印度的第六個區域：加爾各答

查了一下資料才發現，印度應該是僅次於北美的單一國家 CloudFront 最多點的地區：「Amazon CloudFront announces its first Edge locations in Kolkata and Hamburg」。

以「Amazon CloudFront Key Features」這頁列出的資料可以看到印度有第六個區域了：

Edge locations: Bangalore, India (3); Chennai, India (2); Hong Kong, China (3); Hyderabad, India (4); Kolkata, India; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2); Mumbai, India (3); Manila, Philippines; New Delhi, India (4); Osaka, Japan; Seoul, South Korea (4); Singapore (4); Taipei, Taiwan(3); Tokyo, Japan (16)

不過如果以節點總數來說的話，印度與日本都是 17 個 (德國是 16 個)，而且光東京這區就 16 個，這又更感覺得出網路重鎮的味道...

印度的免費 4G...

印度最富有的企業家決定提供免費的 4G 網路讓更多人可以上網：「India's richest man offers free 4G to one billion people」：

India's richest man is rolling out a $20 billion mobile network that could bring lightning-fast Internet to hundreds of millions of people.

到 2016 年底：

Indians will be able to use Jio for free until the end of 2016, and pay as little as 149 rupees ($2.25) a month for data after that.

唔，為什麼突然想到 Samuel L. Jackson 呢...

AWS 印度區開放

AWS 先前宣佈要在印度開放的消息總算是實現了：「Now Open – AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region」，另外他們家老大 Werner Vogels 也放了新聞稿：「Expanding the Cloud: Introducing the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region」。

在「AWS Regions and Endpoints」也更新了，也可以看出區域代碼是 ap-south-1。價錢上看起來跟日本與新加坡差不多在同一個等級...

不知道之後連到歐洲的效能會是怎麼樣 :o (現在看不準，應該還沒 optimize)

CloudFront 在印度的第三個機房

Amazon CloudFront 在印度成立第三個機房，在首都新德里 (New Delhi)，前兩個是孟買 (Mumbai) 與清奈 (Chennai)：「New Edge Location in New Delhi, India for Amazon CloudFront and Amazon Route 53」。

不過 CloudFront 在台灣的情況還是沒有很好，常常被導去國外 (不分 ISP)，相較於其他 CDN 還是覺得不太行... :/

DigitalOcean 下一個資料中心建在印度

DigitalOcean 的下一個資料中心會建在印度：「Announcing the Home of our Next Datacenter: Bangalore, India」。

這幾年可以看到很多投入印度市場的消息，像是 Amazon CloudFront 在 2013 就增加了印度機房的 PoP，而且是一次增加兩個：「AWS CloudFront 與 Route53 增加印度機房...」，而去年 2015 年時又喊話要直接開印度區：「In the Works – AWS Region in India」。

印度對軟體專利的限制

印度對軟體專利加以限制：「No patent if invention lies only in computer program, says Indian Patent Office」，新的規定規範了如果是程式內所跑出來的創新 (invention)，那麼就不可以被專利化：

The new guideline says that if the contribution of the invention lies only in computer program, the examiner should deny the patent claim.

基於程式本身不可專利，那麼完全由程式所產生出來的創新也不應該有專利權：

"The computer program in itself is never patentable. If the contribution lies solely in the computer program, deny the claim. If the contribution lies in both the computer program as well as hardware, proceed to other steps of patentability," it added.
