Backblaze 開 US East 區域

Backblaze 宣佈有 US East 區域了：「Backblaze Adds US East Region, Expanding Location Choices and Cloud Replication Options」。

從圖可以看到本來是 US West + EU Central，當初開歐洲區比較像是歐洲客戶會需要遵守歐盟規範之類的需求，但這次宣佈美國開第二個區域，應該是代表規模夠足夠大到可以開第二區了？

機房在維吉尼亞州：

Data stored in U.S. East will reside in Backblaze’s newest data center, IAD 1, located in Reston, Virginia.

這樣算是不錯的訊號？

Starlink 在亞洲的第一個點開台了：日本

在 Twitter 上看到有日本人在測 Starlink：

搜新聞看到開台了：「Elon Musk's Starlink launches satellite internet service in Japan」，然後費用大概是因為還沒有調整匯率的關係，稍微比美國的 US$110/mo 低一些：

SpaceX made the announcement on its official Twitter page. According to its official website, the monthly service fee is 12,300 yen ($84) on top of hardware costs of 73,000 yen.

不過官網上看起來不是全區，只有本州的東半部，包括東京：

從回報的 routing 看起來 latency 還行？東京 30ms，新加坡 130ms... 這樣對於偏遠山區沒有佈建高速網路的，也許可以考慮用用看？

AWS 在阿聯開區域了 (me-central-1)

AWS 在阿聯開新的區域了：「Now Open–AWS Region in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)」。

也是首發就 3 AZ：

The Middle East (UAE) Region has three Availability Zones that you can use to reliably spread your applications across multiple data centers.

中東的第一個區域是巴林，首都麥納瑪離阿聯的首都杜拜直線距離大約 500km，算起來蠻近的... 對於主要客群是中東的用戶，看起來可以設計 Active-Active 的機制做到跨區備援？

不過更重要的還是繼續等台灣的 local zone...

AWS Ground Station 增加了巴林的基地站

先前 AWS Ground Station 提供的地面站都在美國 (美東與美西)，這代表有些衛星就打不到了... 這次宣佈增加中東巴林的點，差不多是美西的對面，也因此增加了不少涵蓋率：「AWS Ground Station is now available in Middle East (Bahrain) region」。

雖然現在的公司有在用衛星，但以價錢與支援的頻帶看起來，應該連測試都沒機會... XD

AWS 中東區巴林開幕

AWS 開了中東區，在巴林：「Now Open – AWS Middle East (Bahrain)」，現在的標配都是 3 AZs 了：

The Middle East (Bahrain) Region consists of three Availability Zones (AZ’s). Having three Availability Zones enables Middle East organizations to meet business continuity and disaster recovery requirements and also build highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable applications.

翻了一下之前的計畫，中東區本來是預定 2019 上半年要提供，看起來稍微 delay 了 (不過比香港區好很多了)：「AWS 將在阿拉伯聯合大公國擴點」。

AWS 香港區開放

在 Twitter 上看到 AWS 公開了香港區的消息：「Announcing the AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region」，他們總算是想起來有這區了：

有三個 AZ：

The AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region consists of three Availability Zones and with this launch, the AWS Global Infrastructure now offers 64 Availability Zones worldwide, serving customers in over 190 countries.

不過在 Region Table 裡面還沒出現，雖然上面已經標「Last updated: April 24, 2019」了... 從「AWS Regions and Endpoints」可以看到區域代碼是 ap-east-1，然後可以看到 S3 的部分是這樣寫：

You must enable this Region before you can use it.

加上之前的一些傳言，可以猜測一些事情？

Anyway，本來是說 2018 年的時候要開 (參考 2017 年的「AWS 香港區 2018 開台」這篇)，總算在 2019 年開了...

AWS 將在阿拉伯聯合大公國擴點

AWS 新的擴張計畫：「In the Works – AWS Region in the Middle East」。

兩個比較大的階段，第一個是在 2018Q1 先建 PoP，把 CloudFront、Route 53 之類的服務先接上去：

We also plan to open an edge location in the UAE in the first quarter of 2018. This will bring Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Route 53, AWS Shield, and AWS WAF to the region, adding to our existing set of 84 points of presence world-wide.

再來是 2019 上半年建 region：

I am happy to announce that we will be opening an AWS Region in the Middle East by early 2019. The new Region will be based in Bahrain, will be comprised of three Availability Zones at launch, and will give AWS customers and partners the ability to run their workloads and store their data in the Middle East.

這樣就會變成離非洲最近的 region 了... (目前應該是印度？)

AWS 的 us-east-1 開放第六個 AZ

AWS 的 us-east-1 上次加第五個 AZ 不知道是什麼時候了，找資料找不太到... 這次宣佈加第六個 AZ 進去了：「Sixth AZ in US East (N. Virginia) Region」。

依照 AWS 之前有提出來的架構，所有 AZ 之間都是有互向連接的... 所以 us-east-1 加 AZ 都會比其他區域辛苦不少...

AWS 美東第二區開放

如同之前 AWS 的規劃，宣佈啟用美東第二區了 (us-east-2，在俄亥俄州)：「Now Open – AWS US East (Ohio) Region」。看了一下 EC2 的價錢，與 us-east-1 是同一個級別的，其他的服務應該是都差不多...

另外因為跨州了 (而且跟 us-east-1 很近)，所以官方也推薦拿來做異地服務：

With just 12 ms of round-trip latency between US East (Ohio) and US East (Northern Virginia), you can make good use of unique AWS features such as S3 Cross-Region Replication, Cross-Region Read Replicas for Amazon Aurora, Cross-Region Read Replicas for MySQL, and Cross-Region Read Replicas for PostgreSQL.

其中有個特別的地方在於 us-east-{1,2} 之間傳輸的費用會以 Inter-AZ 計費，而非以跨 region 計費。大概是希望讓大家有動力多放些東西過去，畢竟 us-east-1 實在太大，穩定性超有名的關係 XDDD：

Data transfer between the two Regions is priced at the Inter-AZ price ($0.01 per GB), making your cross-region use cases even more economical.
