Amazon CloudFront 在南美大降價...

Amazon CloudFront 宣佈了第 200 個點，同時也宣佈了南美的價錢從 11 月開始降價 56%：「200 Amazon CloudFront Points of Presence + Price Reduction」。

這次的降價幅度相當驚人，南美的頻寬本來是全 CloudFront 裡最高的，現次一降就降到比整個亞洲區的價錢都還低了，不知道是弄到什麼新合約：

We are also reducing the pricing for on-demand data transfer from CloudFront by 56% for all Points of Presence in South America, effective November 1, 2019.

不過這個比較不包括 AWS 中國區的價錢 (獨立的系統)，在中國的價錢是 CNY$0.30866/GB，換算成美金大約是 USD$0.04/GB。

這次加的三個點也都是在南美的新的點：

Today I am happy to announce that our global network continues to grow, and now includes 200 Points of Presence, including new locations in Argentina (198), Chile (199), and Colombia (200):

CloudFront 開始提供中國大陸的服務

Amazon CloudFront 開始提供中國大陸上的節點：「Amazon CloudFront is now Available in Mainland China」。看起來是綁在 AWS China 上面，而且需要 ICP 才能使用：

To start using CloudFront in China, customers must setup a CloudFront distribution using the AWS Management Console or API in China and also obtain a valid ICP (Internet Content Provider) recordal.

不過第一波提供的節點不多，只有北京、上海與寧夏：

Amazon CloudFront announces the launch of CloudFront in China with three new Edge locations (POPs) located in Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhongwei, operated by Ningxia Western Cloud Data Co. Ltd. (NWCD).

後續不知道還有機會展到哪些地區...

Amazon CloudFront 要增加自訂網域名稱需要先過認證...

大概猜得到原因，總算是把這塊做下去了...

AWS 宣佈 CloudFront 增加自訂網域名稱需要先過認證才能啟用：「Amazon CloudFront enhances the security for adding alternate domain names to a distribution」，也就是把自己的 domain name 掛到 CloudFront 上需要先認證過。

這邊的認證需要用公開被信任的 SSL Certificate，而大多數人應該會直接拿 AWS 提供的 ACM 來用：

With this change, when you add an alternate domain name using the AWS Management Console or the CloudFront API, you will now need to attach a certificate to the distribution to confirm that you have authorized rights to use the alternate domain name. The certificate must be valid and come from a publicly trusted Certificate Authority like AWS Certificate Manager which provides public SSL/TLS certificates for free.

申請 ACM 也需要確認身分，印象中沒記錯的話是透過 DNS 或是 e-mail 認證。

會有這個改變是因為有一個 DDoS 的攻擊手法可以「造成困擾」。在沒有認證就可以增加網域名稱的情況下 (假設是 assets.gslin.com)，AWS 需要把不同帳號設定同一組 domain name (assets.gslin.com) 的 IP address 分開，這樣才能確保安全性。而 IPv4 address 是有限的，用很多帳號申請就有機會讓真正的 assets.gslin.com 擁有人想要用的時候沒有資源可以用。

其實在 Route53 也有類似的問題，但因為是個雞生蛋蛋生雞的問題，就更不好解決了，在 DNS 還沒設定好之前要怎麼確認身分是一個更頭痛的問題... e-mail 認證可能是一個方法，但流程上就多了不少步驟。

AWS 推出了 Live 時全自動上字幕的功能

AWS 推出了在直播時就自動上字幕的功能：「Introducing Live Streaming with Automated Multi-Language Subtitling」，其實就是把現有的服務兜出來：「Live Streaming with Automated Multi-Language Subtitling」。

The solution deploys Live Streaming on AWS which includes AWS Elemental MediaLive, MediaPackage, Amazon CloudFront. The solution also deploys AWS Lambda, Amazon Simple Storage Service, Amazon Transcribe, and Amazon Translate.

對於比較沒那麼要求翻譯品質的情況也許可以玩看看...？

CloudFront 在北美增加了一堆節點...

CloudFront 在北美增加了一堆節點：「Amazon CloudFront announces ten new Edge locations in North America, Europe, and Asia」。

北美一口氣增開了八個，提升了 40% 的 capacity：

Amazon CloudFront announces ten new Edge locations, adding to our global presence. Eight of the new Edge locations are in North America: Houston, Texas (our first location in this city), Chicago, Illinois, Newark, New Jersey, Los Angeles, California, and Ashburn, Virginia. We also added an Edge location in Berlin, Germany, as well as one in Tokyo, Japan.

With this launch, CloudFront will increase its request processing capacity by up to 40%, on average, in the North American cities.

另外不怎麼意外的又增加了東京...

CloudFront 十週年、在東京的第十個 PoP，以及支援 WebSocket 與 Origin Failover

CloudFront 宣佈十年了，另外這次在東京又加節點了，變成 10 個：「Celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Amazon CloudFront by launching six new Edge locations」。

另外宣佈支援 WebSocket：「Amazon CloudFront announces support for the WebSocket protocol」，以及支援 Origin Failover：「Amazon CloudFront announces support for Origin Failover」。

WebSocket 算是大家等蠻久的功能，大家主要是希望利用 CloudFront 擋 DDoS，正常流量才往後丟。而 Origin Failover 則是可以設定兩個 Origin，當主要的掛掉時可以切到備用的，對於支援多節點的架構算是第一步 (目前看起來只能設兩個)：

With CloudFront’s Origin Failover capability, you can setup two origins for your distributions - primary and secondary, such that your content is served from your secondary origin if CloudFront detects that your primary origin is unavailable.

都是隔壁棚 Cloudflare 支援許久的功能... 算是補產品線與進度？

Backblaze 與 Cloudflare 合作，免除傳輸費用

先前知道不少單位會選擇用 CloudFront 的原因就是 S3 到 CloudFront 這段是不需要傳輸費用的。畢竟 CDN 的 hit rate 還是有限，用其他家 CDN 得付這塊費用。

而現在 Backblaze 宣佈跟 Cloudflare 合作，免除掉 Backblaze 到 Cloudflare 的費用：「Backblaze and Cloudflare Partner to Provide Free Data Transfer」。

Today we are announcing that beginning immediately, Backblaze B2 customers will be able to download data stored in B2 to Cloudflare for zero transfer fees.

AWS 這邊會不會有其他動作呢...

AWS 日本區 EC2 與 S3 的傳輸費用降價...

在 Twitter 看到 Jeff Barr 提到日本區的 EC2 與 S3 傳輸費用降價：

網站的說明文章則是在「AWS Data Transfer Price Reductions – Up to 34% (Japan) and 28% (Australia)」這邊。分成幾個部份降價：

  • 10TB 以下的費用從 USD$0.14/GB 變成 $0.114/GB (約 19%)。
  • 10TB 到 50TB 從 USD$0.135/GB 變成 USD$0.089/GB (約 34%)。
  • 50TB 到 150TB 則是 USD$0.13/GB 變成 USD$0.086/GB (約 34%)。
  • 超過 150TB 的部份從 USD$0.12/GB 變成 USD$0.084/GB (約 30%)。

然後自動回朔到 2018/09/01 開始算：

Effective September 1, 2018 we are reducing prices for data transfer from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amazon CloudFront by up to 34% in Japan and 28% in Australia.

另外有提到 CloudFront 也有降價，以及澳洲的部份，應該不太會碰到所以就跳過去...

但就文章這樣寫明 EC2 與 S3 的流量有降價，應該表示從 ELB 出去的流量就不算在這次的降價？除非你是直接 S3 裸奔，不然對大多數的人應該沒差？

CloudFront 在台北增加第三個點...

在 Twitter 上看到 AWS 宣佈 CloudFront 加了四個點：

點進去後發現這四個點包括了台北：

Amazon CloudFront announces four new Edge locations: Cape Town, South Africa; Denver, Colorado; Frankfurt, Germany; and Taipei, Taiwan.

在 CloudFront 的列表裡也增加到三個點：

Bangalore, India; Chennai, India (2); Hong Kong, China (3); Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Mumbai, India (2); Manila, Philippines; New Delhi, India; Osaka, Japan; Seoul, South Korea (4); Singapore (3); Taipei, Taiwan(3); Tokyo, Japan (8)

這樣應該可以再減少被導去海外節點的機會 (通常是香港或日本)，不過狀況會怎麼樣還要再觀察... 先前加第二個點後，觀察到的現象是有減少，但還是會發生。現在加到第三個後不知道會不會解決...

CloudFront 開非洲節點了...

AWS 宣佈 CloudFront 在非洲的第一個節點開在南非的約翰尼斯堡 (Johannesburg)：「Amazon CloudFront Expands into Africa with new Edge Location in Johannesburg and first Edge Location in Bangalore」。

這樣各大洲都有點了...
