然後作者提到了 Speedify 這個付費軟體 (月費),可以把多個 ISP 的頻寬綁起來,不過我想要看看自己怎麼在 Ubuntu 桌機上搞,畢竟我家裡也有兩條固網 (HiNet北都),能夠自動 failover 就算符合我的用途了...

美國汽車的兒童安全座椅法律,影響生育的意願

Hacker News Daily 上看到的,原文標題比較漂亮:「Car Seats as Contraception」,在 Hacker News 上也有討論:「Car seats as contraception (ssrn.com)」,重點是作者之一 (David H. Solomon) 也有跑上去回應。

Abstract 的部份把重點都講出來了,1977 年美國通過汽車的兒童安全座椅法律,但大多數的汽車無法放下第三張座椅,這反而使得生第三胎的成本大幅提高 (需要買空間更大的車),然後另外拉出資料分析因為法律而制止的車禍數量:

Since 1977, U.S. states have passed laws steadily raising the age for which a child must ride in a car safety seat. These laws significantly raise the cost of having a third child, as many regular-sized cars cannot fit three child seats in the back. Using census data and state-year variation in laws, we estimate that when women have two children of ages requiring mandated car seats, they have a lower annual probability of giving birth by 0.73 percentage points. Consistent with a causal channel, this effect is limited to third child births, is concentrated in households with access to a car, and is larger when a male is present (when both front seats are likely to be occupied). We estimate that these laws prevented only 57 car crash fatalities of children nationwide in 2017. Simultaneously, they led to a permanent reduction of approximately 8,000 births in the same year, and 145,000 fewer births since 1980, with 90% of this decline being since 2000.

加州在四月將會開放無人自駕車上路了...

TechCrunch 看到加州要開放自駕車上路了:「California to allow testing of self-driving cars without a driver present」。

California’s Department of Motor Vehicles established new rules announced Monday that will allow tech companies and others working on driverless vehicle systems to begin trialling their cars without a safety driver at the wheel. The new rules go into effect starting April 2.

不過不是完全獨立運作,而是有附加條件,讓遠端的控制中心可以在必要時介入:

This doesn’t mean test vehicles will be out there on the roads without any kind of human intervention backup – the DMV will require that those testing autonomous cars without a driver present have a dedicated communications channel that ties the car to a remote operator, who can take over if needed. The cars will also need to be hardened against cyber attacks and be able to provide their owner and operator info to any other parties in the event of an accident.

Google 自動駕駛車保護行人而申請的專利

在「Google patent: Glue would stick pedestrian to self-driving car after collision」這邊看到因為自動駕駛車的發明才有可能做到的專利。

一般的情況下,在汽車撞到行人後,駕駛會急忙停下來,而可能會導致後方車輛的追撞,而且可能會導致行人直接飛出去造成更多的傷害。這個專利規劃在車輛前端使用特殊的黏性膠,再透過減速讓行人黏在上面停下來:

The front region of the vehicle may be coated with a specialized adhesive that adheres to a pedestrian, and thus holds the pedestrian on the vehicle in the unfortunate event that the front of the vehicle comes into contact with the pedestrian,

The adhesion of the pedestrian to the vehicle may prevent the pedestrian from bouncing off.

Bloomberg 上看到的新聞,Uber 這類服務在北美的商務交通支出的佔有率已經超越一般租車了:「Uber Overtakes Rental Cars Among Business Travelers」。

資料來源是來自 Certify,北美第二大的雲端管理服務。所以這份資料其實還是有 bias 存在,但還是可以看出大趨勢:

所以不只有一般計程車行業受到影響,在商務客也受到衝擊。

Lyft 與通用汽車合作,將在今年推出無人駕駛計程車

在「GM, Lyft to Test Self-Driving Electric Taxis」這邊看到突破性的服務,Lyft通用汽車 (GM) 合作,將在今年推出無人駕駛計程車。

通用汽車的新聞稿在這:「GM and Lyft to Shape the Future of Mobility」。

這直接再度衝擊了整個行業... 這次行業裡面的「人」消失了。

BMW 遵守 LGPL v2.1 的方法

在「BMW *are* complying with the GPL」看到的,BMW 的車上軟體有用到 LGPL v2.1 的軟體,於是在車上的電腦可以翻到版權宣告:

結合 Malware 與 Social Engineering 的詐騙

在「Malware scam appears to use GPS data to catch speeding Pennsylvania drivers」這邊看到新的詐騙方式。

手機的 malware app (藏有惡意程式的 app) 會要求 GPS 資料 (現在智慧型手機上 app 的常態),而當 malware app 偵測到你超速時,詐騙集團就會發出假的超速罰單,像是這樣:
